PLCU College Scholarship Competition
Here are the winners of our 17th annual scholarship competition; each receives a $2,500 reward.
Rachel Flores, Beaumont High School
Inspired by medical challenges her loved ones have faced, Rachel has set a goal of becoming a bioengineer. She wants to be in the forefront of research to develop methods of skin, organ and tissue regeneration. She plans to attend University of the Pacific in Stockton.
Elizabeth Miller, Granite Hills High School
Elizabeth was born into a family of successful entrepreneurs who taught her the value of planning. So since she was a child, she has planned to earn a clinical doctorate in physical therapy. The next step will be attending San Diego State University.
Calvin Yao, University City High School
The son of immigrants, Calvin graduated first in his class, earning Valedictorian honors. He has always wanted to help people, and he plans to do that as a doctor. He will major in biochemistry at UC San Diego, then will go to medical school.
Each winner can receive additional awards of $1,000 each for their sophomore, junior and senior years, for a possible total award of $5,500, by maintaining at least a 2.75 GPA while carrying a full course load.
